Case Study
Seer Healthcare
Client Overview
Seer Healthcare is a company focused on improving clinical trial planning by providing tools that address key challenges faced by Clinical Operations (ClinOps) leaders. Clinical trials often involve complex processes, tight deadlines, and significant uncertainties. Seer Healthcare aims to support ClinOps leaders by simplifying these processes and offering data-driven insights to help them make informed decisions with greater confidence.
The Challenge
Clinical trial planning is an intricate and demanding process, often plagued by uncertainty and tight deadlines. ClinOps leaders face constant pressure to provide accurate forecasts, identify optimal sites, and stay ahead of the competition, all while managing limited resources and tight budgets. Seer Healthcare identified these pain points and envisioned a web application that could:
- Calculate accurate participant enrollment rates.
- Forecast study enrollment trajectories to determine if targets will be met before deadlines.
- Identify similar studies to present comprehensive analyses, including competitive and potential sites.
Seer Healthcare needed a software development partner capable of turning this vision into a reality with a user-friendly, robust, and data-driven platform.
The Solution
Thytanium partnered with Seer Healthcare to design and develop an advanced web application offering several key features to empower ClinOps leaders:
Similar Studies
This feature allows users to modify the list of similar studies associated with their clinical trials. By refining these lists, users can obtain a more accurate view of competitive and potential sites, enhancing strategic planning.
For this feature we used tRPC to fetch the data in a seamless way. We leveraged React-Table to allow users to filter and sort the data easily.
Similar Study Comparison
Designed for intuitive analysis, this feature lets users compare an unlimited number of studies simultaneously. It functions like an e-commerce product comparison tool, enabling ClinOps leaders to evaluate studies side-by-side by features and metrics.
By leveraging Drizzle ORM and tRPC, we came up with a way to dinamically fetch the requested data with low impact on performance, as the user is allowed to select any number of studies to compare.
Similar Study Analysis
Displays key metrics derived from the aggregation of data from all selected similar studies. This feature allows users to compare enrollment, enrollment rates, and study duration using visual aids, providing a clearer understanding of the similarity to the base study.
TypeScript algorithms were used to calculate and display the metrics on the fly. We draw on our experience in data visualization and used the Recharts library to display the graph.
Site Locations with the Most Competition
Users can access a comprehensive list of site locations where similar studies are actively conducted. This provides valuable insights into areas with high competitive activity, aiding in strategic site selection.
Most Competition by City and Postal Code
This detailed feature drills down into competitive activity, offering granular views of active study sites by city and postal code. This level of precision helps users make more informed decisions on site locations.
Potential Site Locations
To assist with strategic planning, this feature identifies potential sites for conducting studies. It factors in competition levels and insights about principal investigators, offering actionable recommendations for site selection.
Enrollment Forecast
Users can tweak expected enrollment figures for their study sites and instantly visualize the impact on the final enrollment forecast. This dynamic graph helps ClinOps leaders plan with precision and adapt strategies in real time.
For this feature, we created an algorithm with TypeScript to compute the forecast on the fly and then pass the data to Recharts to plot the graph.
